Market making

Robinhood Chain Market Maker Bot

Volume makes a pair visible. A market maker makes it tradable. Continuous two-sided quoting on your Uniswap pool — tight spreads, real resting depth, and a chart without holes in it.

Market making is not the same thing as volume

A volume campaign answers "does this pair look active?". A market maker answers "can I actually trade this without getting wrecked?". They are different problems and they need different bots.

A market maker quotes both sides of your pair continuously. It keeps a bid sitting under the price and an ask sitting above it, refreshes them as the market moves, and absorbs the small orders that would otherwise punch holes in a thin book. The visible outcome is a chart that fills in rather than a chart made of gaps, and a spread that does not scare off the next buyer.

On Robinhood Chain — an Arbitrum Orbit L2 clearing blocks in roughly 100ms — quotes can be refreshed far more aggressively than on a slower L1, which is what makes continuous two-sided quoting practical at memecoin scale.

What the market maker bot controls

Every parameter is yours to set, and sensible defaults are supplied per liquidity band.

  • Spread. How far bid and ask sit from mid. Tighter looks healthier and costs more to hold.
  • Depth. How much size rests at each level, and how many levels deep the ladder goes.
  • Refresh rate. How quickly quotes re-centre after the price moves. Faster tracking, more gas.
  • Inventory bounds. Hard limits on how long or short the maker is allowed to get before it stops adding to one side.
  • Volume floor. A minimum activity level so the pair never goes fully quiet during slow hours.

When you want a market maker instead of a volume campaign

Reach for the market maker when the problem is quality of the book, not quantity of the tape:

  • Your chart is full of gaps and wicks because there is nothing resting between prints.
  • Your spread is wide enough that a $500 buy moves the price several percent.
  • You are approaching a CEX listing or aggregator review and want a sustained, credible trading history rather than one spike.
  • The token has matured past launch and needs a steady baseline instead of repeated campaign bursts.

Running both together

The common configuration for a serious launch is a volume campaign for the discovery moment and a market maker underneath it for the weeks after.

The campaign gets the pair onto boards and in front of people. The maker makes sure that when those people arrive, the book they find is tradable. Run alone, a volume campaign sends traffic to a pair that punishes it; a maker alone keeps a healthy book that nobody has discovered.

Questions

Market Maker Bot FAQ

What is a market maker on Robinhood Chain?

A bot that continuously quotes both sides of your token’s Uniswap pool on chain ID 4663 — resting a bid below mid and an ask above it, refreshing as price moves, and absorbing small orders that would otherwise gap the chart. It improves spread and depth rather than simply raising the volume number.

Is a market maker the same as a liquidity provider?

No. A liquidity provider deposits assets into the pool and passively earns fees on whatever trades through. A market maker actively trades against the pool, quoting and re-quoting to keep the spread tight and the book usable. You can be both, and most serious projects are.

How is this different from the volume bot?

The volume bot maximises traded notional and unique makers so your pair ranks on screeners. The market maker optimises spread, depth and continuity so the pair is actually tradable. Most launches run the volume campaign for discovery and the market maker underneath it for the following weeks.

Can I verify the market maker’s transactions?

Yes. Every quote and fill is a real transaction on Robinhood Chain and appears in the Blockscout explorer and in your pool’s transaction history. Nothing is simulated or reported off-chain.

What does the market maker cost?

It is priced per running period rather than per unit of volume, because it is a continuous service. Cost scales with how tight a spread and how much resting depth you ask for, plus ETH gas per quote refresh. Talk to support for a configuration quote.

Do I hand over my treasury to run it?

No. The maker operates from its own funded wallets against your public pool. Your treasury, deployer and LP positions are never accessed, and no private keys or approvals are requested from you.
